TALLOW BASICS

What is tallow, and why is it used in skincare?

Tallow is a traditional, nutrient-rich fat that has been used for generations to moisturize and protect the skin. When properly rendered and purified, it closely resembles the skin’s natural oils, making it deeply nourishing and highly compatible with most skin types.

What does tallow do for the skin?

Tallow helps lock in moisture, soften dry areas, and support a smooth, radiant complexion. Its fatty-acid profile mirrors what healthy skin naturally produces, helping maintain a strong, balanced moisture barrier.

Is tallow good for your skin?

Many people find that tallow leaves their skin soft, hydrated, and glowing. Because it contains naturally occurring vitamins and fatty acids, it can help prevent dryness and support overall skin health. Results vary by skin type.

What kind of tallow is best?

Look for grass-fed, cleanly rendered, and carefully purified tallow — ideally without dyes, preservatives, or unnecessary fillers. This ensures a gentle, high-quality product suitable for daily use.

Why are people switching to tallow skincare?

Tallow appeals to those who want simple, time-tested ingredients that work. It offers deep hydration, a luxurious texture, and a “little goes a long way” experience — without long chemical ingredient lists.

SKIN & SAFETY QUESTIONS

Is tallow safe for sensitive skin?

Most people with sensitive skin find tallow incredibly gentle because its fatty-acid profile closely resembles our own skin’s oils. That said, everyone’s skin is unique — always patch test if you’re unsure.

Does tallow clog pores?

Tallow is considered low comedogenic, meaning it’s unlikely to clog pores for most people. Many customers with dry, combination, or even acne-prone skin find it balancing and soothing.

But all skin is unique. Those with acne-prone or very oily skin should patch test and introduce slowly.

Is tallow safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Unscented tallow is generally considered a gentle, simple option for expecting or nursing moms. If you prefer to avoid essential oils, choose the Unscented version.

(Always consult your healthcare provider for personal guidance.)

Can men use Wellness Nonna skincare?

Absolutely — and many do and love it. The texture and simplicity make it a favorite for dry hands, rough patches, beard care, and post-shave comfort.

Is tallow suitable for children?

Many families choose tallow for kids’ dry skin because it’s simple and gentle. Always patch test first and discontinue if irritation occurs.

USAGE, APPLICATION & EVERYDAY TIPS

How much should I use?

Tallow is rich. Start with a pea-sized amount and adjust as needed — a little truly goes a long way.

Can tallow replace my regular moisturizer?

Yes! Many people use tallow as their one and only moisturizer, morning or night. You can also layer it over your favorite hydrating serum.

Can I layer tallow under makeup?

Yes — just use a tiny amount. Lightly applied tallow can create a beautifully smooth base.  Let it absorb before applying makeup. It creates a soft, dewy base.

Can I use tallow on my face and body?

Absolutely. Many people use whipped tallow on the face, hands, elbows, heels, and anywhere that needs a little extra love.

Is tallow safe to use during the day?

Yes! Just remember that tallow itself does not contain SPF, so you’ll still need sun protection when outdoors.

INGREDIENTS & SOURCING

Where does Wellness Nonna source its tallow?

Our tallow comes from high-quality, grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle, carefully cleaned and triple-rendered with care to create a clean, soft, nourishing base.

It’s the closest match to the oils our skin naturally recognizes.

What essential oils do you use, and why?

Wellness Nonna uses only certified pure, skin-friendly essential oils chosen for their calming, soothing, or balancing properties — never synthetic fragrances

(Unscented versions contain zero essential oils.)

Is tallow sustainable?

Yes. Tallow is an upcycled ingredient, traditionally used for generations. Instead of being discarded, it’s transformed into rich, nourishing skincare — honoring the whole animal and reducing waste.

PRODUCT QUESTIONS

What makes whipped tallow different from regular tallow?

Whipped tallow is aerated for a softer, lighter, cloud-like texture that’s easier to apply and absorbs more comfortably.

What does whipped tallow smell like?

My whipped tallow has a clean, barely-there natural scent with a soft hint of the essential oils used.
Unscented has only a light, natural creaminess.

How long does a jar last?

A little goes a very long way.

Most people find a 2 oz jar lasts 4–6 weeks, and a 4 oz jar lasts 2–3 months, depending on how generously you use it.

STORAGE & CARE

How should I store my tallow?

Room temperature is perfect. Keep your jar away from direct heat (like a car or sunny windowsill) to maintain its whipped texture.

What’s the shelf life?

Tallow is naturally stable and long-lasting. Your jar will keep 12+ months when stored at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight.

Does tallow melt or soften in warm weather?

It can soften slightly in heat — this is normal. Simply store in a cool place and stir gently if texture changes.

SHIPPING & ORDERS

Where do you ship?

We currently ship within the continental United States only.

Why don’t you ship internationally?

Because tallow is heat-sensitive and handcrafted in small batches, long transit times and international customs make it difficult to ensure quality upon arrival.

Will you offer international shipping in the future?

We may explore it if we can guarantee product stability and shipping reliability — but for now, we ship only within the U.S. mainland.

Can I use a package forwarding service?

You may, but please note: once the package reaches your forwarding service, we can no longer guarantee product condition or offer replacements for heat-related issues.

BRAND QUESTIONS

Why do you call yourself “Nonna” if you’re not Italian?

It’s a fun story! Even though I’m all Irish, the name Nonna (Italian for grandmother) found me long before I ever became one myself.

Over 20 years ago, my close Italian friend had a little daughter. When she began talking, she started calling me “Nonna”—completely unprompted—and the name stuck. Years later, when I became a grandmother for real, choosing Nonna as my grandmother name felt absolutely perfect.

Sometime after that, I came across a description of an Italian Nonna that made me smile from ear to ear. In Italian culture, the Nonna is the heart of the family—full of love, wisdom, and comfort. She’s the keeper of recipes, traditions, and stories passed down through generations.

To me, Nonna embodies everything I hope Wellness Nonna represents:
warmth, nurturing care, timeless traditions, and simple things made with love. That’s exactly what I want this brand to feel like.
